While we're on the subject on 1980s tv ads, remember the AIDS awareness campaign featuring the Grim Reaper? Of course you do, because it's probably the scariest freakin ad ever made!




Still gives me chills.

Good choice of post title: the first time I saw this ad on telly when I was a kid I had the sound turned down and assumed it was a scene from a sequel to Monthy Python's The Meaning of Life.

I was (a) disappointed to learn that there was no new Monty Python movie, and (b) utterly unable to take this ad seriously. That's probably why I got AIDS.

I have to admit that the ad scared the crap out of me as a kid. But so did almost everything else, so it was no great achievement on the advertising agency's part.
